Out of the Dark Mushrooms
Jul 18, 2019
Local businessman Phil Matheson shares his very personal story of losing his wife to breast cancer and how 'Out of the Dark Mushrooms' has gone from a one man band with family members putting in the added graft, to producing about a tonne of mushrooms per week. The business supplies about 60% of that to top restaurants such a Cocoro, Sid@the French Cafe and Amano as well as supplying My Food Bag and supermarkets.

Coloured Diamonds - Rare and Beautiful
Aug 08, 2019
Gemologist Paul Bunker has a wealth of knowledge spanning over 30 years in the diamond and jewellery industry as a wholesaler to the diamond trade in New Zealand. He obtained the Graduate Gemologist diploma from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) after completing the Diamond Course in Residence in 1983 – the first New Zealander to do so. Paul will speak to us about rare coloured diamonds; only 1 in every 10,000 mined diamonds will possess some type of natural colour, highlighting their rarity. They generally command higher prices than white diamonds and are now a popular investment vehicle.

Oceanmax
Sep 12, 2019
Twenty-something executives are a rarity in the boating industry, but the field gets even tighter when that executive is female. Nona Pedersen admits that she didn’t know much about the industry in 2014 when she applied for a market research job at New Zealand-based Oceanmax. Five years later, she is managing day-to-day operations as its general manager. It wasn’t easy sailing (excuse the pun), to get to where she is today. It took a lot of hard work and dedication to build up her skills to fulfil a big role like this. Nona credits great mentors, a fantastic business, a can-do attitude and the RYLA program for getting her here and to set her up to achieve her ambitious career goals. Nona will be sharing her story as well as her key learnings from her RYLA experience in 2018. |
