From the President's Desk

Hello fellow Rotarians,

Last week we hosted the RYPEN students from Papakura High school and they did themselves proud. It was great to see the confidence they had gained over the weekend and it truly is a great programme to support.

Tracey and I are off to New York for ten days to celebrate Madison’s 21st Birthday with her so that should be fun. Will let you guys know how we go.

Also remember we will not be meeting on the 18th and 25th of April so enjoy the break and make the most of the Sun while it lasts.

Quote of the week;

This one is written by H. Jackson Brown Jnr. “Remember that the happiest people are not those getting more but actually those that are giving more.”

See you all in a couple of weeks,

Regards,
Jon.
Fellowship - International Dinner

October 6th is shaping up to be a great evening as we come together at Debbie and David's for the International Pot Luck dinner. Tracey will be in touch over the next day or two asking you to bring a savoury or sweet option (trying to make sure we get an even split!). If you have preference make sure to email her ASAP.
Rotary Youth Exchange - Cultural Weekend

Our Rotary Youth Exchange students Lily (Inbound from France) and Cassidy (Outbound to Argentina) spent the weekend immersed in the Maori Culture and hospitality of Ta Tahawai Marae at Edgewater College, alongside the other Inbound and Outbound students of the district. For many of the students, this was their first Powhiri  and over the weekend they enjoyed the experience of learning about Maori customs and traditions firsthand. The Rotary part of the weekend involved sessions preparing the Outbounds for their upcoming exchange and the Inbounds for their challenge of fundraising for an ERK, their South Island trip and Rotary Conference.

The Travelling Wilson's

Hi President Jon and fellow members,

Sorry for the big delay in contact however the availability of wifi, for better or the worst, in remote regions is a reality that only hits when you need it most. Africa is interesting in that you sometimes can find wifi when you least expect it, similar to when you see a Masai Warrior pull a cell phone from under his skirt.

"I knew about polio. I had seen victims of the disease. I had been immunized against it. I found there was an opportunity to do something more to help with the eradication efforts..."

Roger That!
The only good luck many great Presidents ever had was being born with the ability and determination to overcome bad luck!
