Rotary Club of Papakura
2020-2021

3rd December 2020, Issue 22

From the President's Desk

Greetings Fellow Rotarians
The TV News Presenter informed me tonight that it was now 1 year since the first case of Covid-19 was detected in New Zealand.
So much for those of us, that thought the whole thing would be over in a couple of months!
I am extremely proud of the way the Rotary Club of Papakura has handled the last 12 months. We have kept the club active and helped the community with a number of projects and situations.
Due to ‘you know what’ we will be running a zoom meeting this Thursday evening. John F will be sending out details soon.
My thanks to PE Sue for keeping things ticking over while I was away restocking the freezer with fish for the next 12 months.
I am very disappointed with the latest Level 3 lockdown. I had spent last Saturday playing some very good bowls in the qualifying rounds of the Club 4’s competition, and qualified, only to have the Post Section play on Sunday cancelled!!!.
I can tell you one thing – a ‘Boomer’ did not cause this latest lockdown.
Catch you online Thursday.
President Allan

Santa Parade 6th December 2020

Santa Claus is coming
Sunday afternoon 6th December

All leave is cancelled

The Parade starts at 3pm. Streets will be closed from 1pm and the Parade floats will assemble early afternoon.

The Club will run the BBQ sausage sizzle.

This is a key event for the Club in show-casing the activities of Rotary to the public so member’s support for assigned roles or general duties is appreciated.

Thank you,
Community Committee.
2020 Rotary Scholarship Students
The high school students who received a 2020 Scholarship will speak to the club on Thursday 3rd December.
Please come along to meet the students and congratulate them on getting the award.
Update on Tayla (2018 Rotary Scholarship recipient)

Hi Rotary members,

It is Tayla Thorby here. I was a recipient of the Papakura Rotary Scholarship back in 2018 from Rosehill College. Just thought I would send you a message to let you know I had another very successful year at university.

Why I finally joined a Rotary club By Erin Maloney

Until this summer, I had never really thought about joining a Rotary club. Even though I have been involved with service – from anti-domestic violence issues to giving music lessons – for all of my adult life, I was not interested in the traditional model of Rotary (with weekly meetings).
