From the President's Desk

Hello fellow Rotarians,
So this is it, my last week as President and what a year it has been!

I want to say a massive thank you to the whole club for the great support and help I have received over the last 12 Months. It really was a lot of fun, mixed in with some hard work which is often the best combination. Leading Papakura Rotary and working alongside you has been an honour and I am grateful I was given the opportunity. As a Club we have done ourselves proud and I believe we have had a substantial impact on our wider community.
Changeover registration is now closed for this Saturday. Remember this is a formal evening and a chance to flash it up a bit and based on last year will be good fun!
Tracey and I cannot be there for Lily’s speech on Thursday which is very sad as she has just been a fantastic exchange student. Please get behind her and come along to see her off. She did a great job at farewell of thanking her host families and the club. Not a dry eye in the house. You will be missed Lily!
See you all on Saturday night,
A big thanks to Kerry!

Bernie Kay and daughter Kerry van Tiel
Last week we were able to show our appreciation to Kerry van Tiel, for all her hard work in preparation for Papakura Christmas Parade each year. The countless hours she spends are gratefully received by the Community committee and we hope she enjoys a lovely evening out at Urban Soul!
Edmund Hillary School Camp
Edmund Hillary School has organised a camp for 90 of their year 6-8 students in mid- May.  They will go to the YMCA’s Camp Adair at Hunua.  This will be the first camp the school has held for over 12 years.  The cost is close to $28,000, and with assistance from various trusts they have raised a considerable amount towards the cost.  Dave Lockwood from Camp Adair approached our club to see if we could assist with the balance required of about $6,000.

Hola! While my second month on exchange is drawing to a close, I am definitely getting an understanding of what people mean when they say time flies on exchange. It really it feels like I’ve just blinked and its already nearly April! I’m so busy and full on that it’s sometimes overwhelming but I really am loving my time.
President's Backyard BBQ  6 April 2019 @5.30pm
Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday!
It will be an easy clean up paper plates, plastic cutlery and plastic 'glass' type of affair so if the glass makes a difference to how much you enjoy your wine, it might be best that you bring the real thing from home!
Ten Pin Bowling Night Cancelled

Unfortunately the proposed 10 Pin Bowling tournament at Pukekohe Cosmopolitan Club on the 16th of April is not going to work.  The restaurant there is closed Monday- Wednesday, and the Bowling alley is only open until 8pm on Tuesday nights. Wednesday the 17th will not work either as they run bowling leagues that night.

It would seem that a Thursday night is the best option for our club. The Fellowship committee will look to organise dinner and bowling at Pukekohe on a regular Thursday meeting night early in the new Rotary year.

Donna apologises for any inconvenience.

Jon had the pleasure of chaperoning the students home from RYPEN on Sunday afternoon and had a chance to chat to the four Papakura High Students (closest to the front of the photo) the the club sponsored to attend, about their experiences over the weekend. They had an awesome time and are looking forward to sharing their thoughts with us in a few weeks time.
ANZAC Breakfast

The Indian Diaspora Night

George is keen to get a  Papakura Rotary table together and support the Rotary Club of Papatoetoe central as they celebrate the achievements and success of Indian Kiwi's.  It is not far from home, includes a delicious 3 course meal, some wonderful entertainment and the proceeds will support some very worthy beneficiaries!!!
