World Polio Day
From the President's Desk
Hi All

Thanks, Hobby for your presentation on the Cemetery Shelter Project last week. When we get the opportunity to do something like this, we do it well.

Great to see a number of ‘old’ faces and remember their contribution to the RC of Papakura. Great to catch up with PP Noel and Dianne.

This week is our AGM. This is a requirement of being an Incorporated Rotary Club and once it is over, it is over. Enough said.

Look forward to seeing you all Thursday

Yours in Rotary
Allan

Sponsor George, Bernie and Allan
Polio Train - 23rd October
Our club has responded to this event and Allan, Bernie and George are to be the Train Riders from Papakura representing our Club.

We are also a changeover station from the Electric to Diesel Trains. Therefore, we will need a team of enthusiastic volunteers from our club to form a reception team at the Station.  All in our Red Tee Shirts and Caps, rattling a bucket for small change but more importantly for the promotional side of the event.

We were the first club to reply and sign up and it was very appreciated by those dedicated Rotarians running the event.

President Allan will be discussing with Directors concerning a Club Donation to Polio. However, both Allan, Bernie and George will independently be looking for sponsors large and small so do not be shy to approach them, or else you could be solicited. You can donate per station visited or as George suggestion the same as last year a $20 flat fee per Rotarian that would be greatly appreciated.

What it's like to survive through two Pandemics
This story originally appeared in the September 2020 issue of Rotary magazine.
Knowing what it takes to conquer polio, survivors refuse to crumble under a new threat.
Paul Engleman was two years old when he was diagnosed with polio in 1955. One of the lucky ones, as his mother would say, he was not paralyzed by the crippling disease that sometimes kills. Now, he is in the age group that is more susceptible to a new threat, COVID-19. A frequent contributor to Rotary magazine, Engleman describes what it is like to survive polio and live through the COVID-19 pandemic and talks with polio survivors determined to eradicate polio. Read this this amazing story
