From the President's Desk

Hello fellow Rotarians,
So this week we had Peter Ross come and talk to us about the RYLA programme. We will be one of the main host clubs for the programme in 2020, which will be exciting to look forward to.
18 of us attended the Rotary conference this weekend and having never been before I was not sure what to expect.
To sum it up it was very very good. Most of the speakers were excellent including the Rotary Youth Exchange Students and overall I would highly recommend it, Especially if you are new to Rotary.
As a club Papakura is very easy to be proud and we did ourselves proud at the Gala dinner. Most of us were there till late into the night ripping up the dance floor.
I spoke to DG Ingrid Waugh briefly and she also had nothing but praise for the things Papakura are doing and have done.
Also remember we have Directors this week (not postponed now) as Bill Charkow came with Peter Ross last week.
Quote of the week:
"You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience where you look fear in the face. You must do the thing that you cannot do. Keep your fears to yourself but share your courage with others. Leaders have the courage to make unpopular decisions and gut calls."

See you all on Thursday,
Conference Pictures 2019
Great pictures from the Papakura members at the District Conference in Napier.

So yet again, my month has really flown by me! I can remember everything so clearly, yet it is happening so fast, and wow am I having the time of my life. I feel like I’m really starting to understand the culture here and am really, really enjoying myself. My Spanish is at a conversational level. For about 2 weeks now, I’ve been able to understand I’d guess around 80% of what people are saying depending on whether or not they talk fast.

A Call for Curtains

The Rotary Club of Parnell has been asked by Habitat for Humanity for assistance sourcing curtains for its Curtain Bank.
The Curtain Bank urgently needs 2 500 curtains for 200 families living in substandard accommodation. The curtains are needed as soon as possible because most of the windows in their homes are unlined and with winter on us, they are cold and unhealthy.
