Cyclone Harold - Emergency Response Kits (Rotary New Zealand ERKs)
Emergency Response Kits (ERKs) is the only Rotary New Zealand Humanitarian service activity responding to disasters in the Pacific.
New Zealand High Commission, Suva, Fiji has reported that the New Zealand Government has released pre-positioned emergency response kits held by our non-government partner Rotary Fiji following the devastating impact of Harold on Fijian communities.
Rotary Fiji, in partnership with Rotary NZ World Community Service Rnzwcs Limited and Fiji National Disaster Management Office NDMO are currently distributing 420 emergency response kits to Kadavu and other areas impacted by the cyclone.
ERKs also supports in-country economies with many of the items being manufactured in the Pacific. ERKs is recognised by Governments throughout the Pacific who waive import duties and taxes, with local partners taking responsibility for distribution in consultation with Disaster Management Offices.
Consistently ERKs are the first tangible support families receive after a disaster. Throughout the Pacific, communities are ever grateful for the support New Zealanders give in times of disaster.
Pictures are from the ERK Kits being loaded for distribution.

Rotary members around the world are making an impact in the fight against COVID-19 with Rotary’s disaster response grants. They are supplying hospitals in Belgium, Croatia, and Italy with lifesaving ventilators. They’re equipping frontline health care workers in Korea, Nigeria, the Philippines, Spain, and the United States with desperately needed personal protective equipment. Because of this global need, The Rotary Foundation has increased the amount available for these grants from $1 million to $3 million. In the midst of such difficult and uncertain times, Rotary members around the world persevere. No challenge is so big that we can’t make a difference.
