District Governor visit postponed

Due to a death in the family, DG Gary Langford is unable to visit the club this week.  Our thoughts are with Gary and his family and we look forward to his visit in the future.
Hola from Argentina

Well month 8 is very nearly over, and as this month draws to a close I can see that the end of my exchange is coming even closer. While there have been positive and negative aspects of this year and of this experience, I have come to understand that this exchange really, at the end of the day, gave me the opportunity for personal growth that I could not have had any other way.

Tijn takes on Rotavegas

A visit to Rotorua was a pretty good way to start the holidays and both Tijn and Clara (hosted by Waiheke Rotary Club) enjoyed the weekend away with Tracey and Jon.  It was an action filled couple of days with mountain biking in the Redwood forest, a trip up the gondola for a luge racing competition (where two of the 'competitors' ended up outside of their cart) and a wonderful couple of hours at Wai-O-Tapu.

Tijn is now on holiday from school for two weeks and has plenty of time to fill in.  Now is the perfect time to get to know him a bit better and give him a taste of good old-fashioned kiwi hospitality. He is ready and waiting to say YES to all opportunities offered!

Why am I a Rotarian - Martin Baucutt

This is not so much about “why I joined Rotary” but more about “how I joined Rotary”.

It was a fine Sunday and with two free tickets to the football at North Harbour Stadium, I took my next door neighbour to see the game. Working for AFF at the time gave me a free car park and entry into the upper lounges. We sat on the balcony next to another Referee, who was also a Rotarian, and started to talk about the game and other things. It turned out that this person’s son in law was also my sons teacher at Auckland Grammar and then the question popped out “do you know what Rotary is about?”

Papakura Rotary - Year 32 1979-1980

President Carl Jensen (Plastering)

Carl Jensen presided over our last meeting at the R.S.A. and our shift to the Rugby Clubrooms. Our use of the R.S.A. extended back fifteen years to the days of six o’clock closing but the R.S.A. was moving premises and we had to go.

The major project for the year was to help finance the Districts 75th Anniversary Project for the physically disabled at Epsom. A scrap metal drive and an inorganic collection helped to raise the funds.
