Rotary Papakura is once again putting out a call for wool donations to support a wonderful community initiative. The knitting group, which meets at the Pukekohe Library, is in urgent need of supplies to continue their incredible work for families in the Franklin district.

This project began last year when Assistant Governor Andrew Harvey discovered a group of passionate knitters who, despite their dedication, lacked the funding to purchase wool. Andrew, with the support of local Rotary clubs (Drury and Waiuku), arranged for donations that allowed the group to keep their needles clicking.
This initiative is also a beautiful continuation of a project close to the heart of the late Leonie Dunne from the Rotary Club of Somerville. Leonie was a passionate supporter of natural fibres, and her "Merino Wrap" project from 2018 inspired friends and family from around the world to knit and donate fish and chip vests, blankets, and other warm clothing for new mothers and babies.
Last year, the Pukekohe knitting group, with wool donated by RC Papakura, created dozens of beautiful items. Rob Dunne and Kathryn Harvey were proud to deliver these handmade gifts to the Pukekohe and Papakura Birthing Centers, where they were warmly received by new mums in need of a little extra warmth and care.
Now, the wool supply has run out, and the knitters are ready to get back to work. We are asking for any donations of wool, especially Merino, to help them continue their efforts. Your contribution will directly support these dedicated knitters and provide much-needed warmth to newborns and their families in our community.
If you have any spare wool you'd like to donate, please bring it to our next meeting. Every ball of wool makes a difference!
