We were privileged to have Carole and Glynn from Riding for Disabled (RDA) South Auckland join us at our last meeting as guests of RC Manurewa. They shared with us the incredible work their organization does and introduced us to a very special member of their team: Cracker, a therapy horse whose purchase was made possible, in part, by the generous donation from the RC Manurewa.

Carole and Glynn explained that a therapy horse, like Cracker, is specially trained to assist individuals with a wide range of physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges. These gentle, patient animals are more than just companions; they are partners in a unique form of therapy. They help build confidence, improve balance and coordination, and offer a sense of freedom and connection to those who may be living with a disability.

RDA South Auckland, a non-profit organization, provides therapeutic horse riding programs to children and adults in our community. Their work is a beacon of hope, offering a safe and supportive environment where participants can experience the profound benefits of interacting with horses. This includes hippotherapy, a physical, occupational, and speech therapy that uses the movement of the horse as a treatment tool. The rhythmic motion of the horse mimics the human gait, which helps improve muscle tone, posture, and balance.

The story of Cracker is a testament to the power of community and compassion. RC Manurewa’s  contribution to his purchase will directly impact the lives of many individuals, providing them with the opportunity to find strength, joy, and independence through the unique and powerful bond between human and horse.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Carole and Glynn for their inspiring presentation and to RDA South Auckland for their tireless dedication to making a difference in the lives of so many. Let's all celebrate the positive impact we can have when we come together for a great cause.
