Papakura Rotary's former Concert at Karaka participant, acclaimed violinist Amalia Hall, is set to appear with the Auckland Philharmonia at the Ellerslie War Memorial Hall on Friday, August 29th at 10.30am.
This marks a special occasion as Amalia appears for her first "Meet the Artist" (MTA) session with the Friends of the Auckland Philharmonia since 1999. The Orchestra Wellington Concertmaster and NZTrio violinist will be interviewed by our very own Jackie Wilkinson.
Since making her solo debut with the Auckland Philharmonia at the age of nine, Amalia has been a regular soloist with all of New Zealand's major orchestras. The Papakura Rotary community remembers her performance at our Concert in Karaka in May 2007. Noted for her "blazing insight and dazzling virtuosity," Amalia has performed the world premiere of violin concertos by Claire Cowan and Michael Norris with Orchestra Wellington. She currently plays on the c. 1700 Vincenzo Rugeri ‘Baron Knoop’ violin, generously on loan from a private benefactor.
Following the interview, attendees will be treated to a special performance by John Han and Juli Kim. Both musicians are part of the Auckland Philharmonia's Learn & Participate Fellowship Programme, which helps bridge the gap between tertiary training and a professional orchestral career. John, who was an Orchestral Fellow in 2024, has since won a full-time position as a Tutti Violin in the orchestra. Juli joins as the 2025 Orchestral Fellow after completing her studies at the New England Conservatory of Music in the United States.
