ACG Strathallan was represented at the prestigious Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) 2025, a two-day debate event held at Rosmini College in Auckland on May 16-17. The event brought together over 300 senior students from schools across Auckland and Northland to simulate the United Nations and engage in passionate debates on critical global issues.

MUNA 2025 provided a platform for students to step into the roles of international diplomats, representing various UN member countries. The debates focused on significant contemporary topics, including:

  • Internet access as a universal human right.
  • The regulation of exploitative trade practices.
  • The prohibition of artificial intelligence (AI) in weaponry.
  • Climate equity for developing nations.

The event's primary goals were to foster global awareness, enhance public speaking and debating skills, and build friendships among students with a shared interest in civics and international relations.

ACG Strathallan's Contribution

ACG Strathallan's participation in MUNA 2025 was a success. Social Science and Classical Studies teacher Hamish Meads, along with five students, presented their experience at the Rotary Club of Papakura. Their involvement highlights the school's commitment to providing students with opportunities to engage with real-world issues and develop leadership qualities.

While specific team placements or awards for ACG Strathallan at the event were not publicly announced, their participation underscores the school's dedication to extracurricular activities like Model UN, which is listed as an offered club activity. The experience at MUNA not only allowed students to refine their research and public speaking skills but also gave them a deeper understanding of global diplomacy and the complexities of international relations.

The students joined us for dinner and spoke about their experience. They were enthusiastic about MUNA and blown away by the size and experience they had. They found the different perspectives eye opening  and the leadership and debate inspirational. They are looking forward to next years’ event. They see MUNA as an investment in the future. The students and teacher Hamish Meads thanked the club for allowing them to attend.
