Unlocking Words: The Dictionary in Schools Project Visits Kelvin Road

There is a specific kind of magic in watching 85 Year 4 students realize that the world just got a little bit bigger.

The Rotary Club of Papakura continued its long-standing annual tradition: the Dictionary in Schools project. This year, we visited three local schools to place brand-new dictionaries directly into the hands of young learners, ensuring they have the tools to navigate their literacy journey with confidence.

A Warm Welcome at Kelvin Road

The highlight of the week was undoubtedly our visit to Kelvin Road School. The enthusiasm from the students was infectious; as the boxes were opened, the room buzzed with the kind of genuine appreciation that reminds us why we do what we do.

We owe a huge thank you to Linda, the teacher at Kelvin Road, whose expert management of the group made the presentation a seamless and joyful experience.

It Takes a Village

Projects like this don’t happen in a vacuum. A massive "thank you" goes out to Donna and David, and Peter Wilcock for their invaluable help in assisting with the presentations. Their support ensured that every child felt the personal connection of receiving their gift from the Rotary family.

As these 85 dictionaries find their new homes in backpacks and on desks, we are proud to support the next generation of Papakura’s readers, writers, and thinkers.
