What a truly inspiring day for our "Polio All Transit" event, showcasing the incredible spirit and commitment of our Rotary family!
The day was dedicated to riding Planes, Trains, and Ferries across the region, all to raise vital awareness and funds for the final push to eradicate Polio worldwide.
All Aboard: A Transit of Purpose
The journey began on the sparkling Waitematā Harbour, as Papakura Rotary President Kathryn boarded the Pine Harbour Ferry bound for Auckland. She was immediately met by a sea of enthusiastic Rotarians from across District 9910, 9920 and 9930. The fellowship was electric, with members from clubs including Pohutukawa Coast, Browns Bay, North Shore and even those who had travelled down from the Bay of Islands, proving the deep shared commitment to a Polio-free world.
Meanwhile, the movement was happening across all modes of transport:
Ferries: District 9910 Rotarians crisscrossed the Waitematā Harbour, visiting all the main ferry marinas.
Trains: Others took to the rails, riding all of Auckland's lines—West, South, East, and Onehunga—to spread the message. We were delighted to be joined by members of District 9930, who made a fantastic early morning start by taking the Huia train up from Hamilton!
Planes: The District Governor Team demonstrated an enormous commitment, starting their journey in Wellington and flying to Auckland, joining the train leg at Puhinui Station on their way to Papakura!
Every mile travelled and every conversation shared reinforced our shared message: we will not stop until this disease is eradicated Everywhere.
A Sizzle to Celebrate
The day culminated back in Papakura with a wonderful sausage sizzle, hosted by the dedicated Papakura Rotarians. A huge thank you to all the volunteers who put on this fantastic spread! The food was delicious, and the vegetarian sausages were a particularly big hit with the crowd—a perfect finish to an eventful and successful day.
