On November 14th, the Auckland public transport network will be transformed into a vibrant "sea of red" as Rotarians and supporters from across the city embark on a remarkable journey with a single, crucial mission: to end polio for good. The Polio All Transit event is a powerful, annual initiative that combines community spirit with a global purpose, and again this year, the Rotary Club of Papakura is proud to be a part of it.

Organised by Rotary Districts 9920, 9910 and 9930, the event is a key fundraiser for Rotary International's "End Polio Now" campaign. Participants will board trains, buses and ferries, wearing their signature red shirts, to raise awareness among commuters about the incredible progress made in eradicating this devastating disease. What started as an idea from Sydney has grown into an event that symbolises our collective commitment to a polio-free world.

A cornerstone of the day's activities is the symbolic transfer of funds. At various stations and terminals across the network, including those on our own Southern Line, local Rotary clubs will symbolically “hand over” the funds they have raised to the traveling team. These moments, often involving large mock cheques, are a powerful reminder of the generosity and hard work of our members and community partners. The funds collected from this event, and from our own efforts, will directly support the global campaign.

The impact of our fundraising efforts cannot be overstated, thanks to a crucial partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Every dollar we raise is matched 2-for-1 by the Foundation, meaning that a $100 donation becomes $300 towards the cause. This incredible boost significantly multiplies the impact of every symbolic check handed over, bringing us one step closer to our goal.

This year’s Polio All Transit event is more than just a fundraiser; it's a demonstration of Rotary's power and a celebration of our shared humanitarian purpose. We invite all members to wear red End Polio Now shirts and join the journey on November 14th to help us make history. Let’s ride the rails and make a tangible difference in the lives of children around the world.
