Over the last couple of weeks, I have had the pleasure of visiting the Rotary Clubs of Otahuhu, Pukekohe, Tuakau and Wailuku and although I had the job of handing out the District 9920 Programmes for Schools Booklets I was so well received and really enjoyed the experience.

It reminded me of the old saying 'That you only get what you give' and just how valuable visits to other clubs. It serves as a reminder of what great people Rotarians are, warts 'n' all. That’s what makes us great, our diversity, opinions, ideas and experience just like a family, disagreements included and we certainly don’t fit “the one hat fits all “mentality.

My last visit was a meeting with Pepe Legupepele the Youth Director for Manukau City Sunrise. I met Pepe at his work, Kedgley Intermediate School in Portage Road Papatoetoe. In the process of handing him his Programmes for Schools Booklets, I found out about many of the challenges in his Area.  These challenges are similar to those faced by us in Papakura. Pepe was born in the area he knew his subject well and his advice I really cherished, coming away with far more than I took!

The one common denominator regarding acceptance of any of our Youth Programmes is the necessity to find a Champion in each School who can identify the best fit for any programme and to line up the appropriate staff member to take on the project and link with Rotary at either Club or District levels.

It’s a most rewarding experience to reach out to other clubs with communication or visits as you nearly always receive much more reward than you extend and at the same time will find Rotary more fulfilling.

I really recommend Club Visits as you learn so much and its certainly no chore.  “Be the Inspiration "
